Kara Brooks: NOT IMPRESSED

FOUND:RE Contemporary is pleased to debut “Not Impressed,” the first solo exhibition of the New Year beginning Friday, January 15. The exhibition features a collection by Kara Brooks, a Tempe-based artist and current MFA Intermedia student at ASU. Through Brooks’ work, she examines fear, nostalgia, mundanity, and patterns.

“Most issues labeled as ‘complicated’ are not, they are simply layered,” explains Brooks. “Examining layers takes patience; ‘complicated’ things require expertise.”

Brooks, whose roots stem from Oakland, Pittsburgh and Philadelphia, employs a wide range of medium in her works including digital and traditional drawing and glitter painting. She enjoys contrasting the assumptions that glitter generically holds and uses it as a vehicle to reflect her world.

The show debuts on Friday, January 15with an opening reception from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and remains on display during regular gallery hours through Sunday, February 14. FOUND:RE Contemporary is a free-standing gallery located off Portland Street, adjacent to the FOUND:RE Phoenix.
